The earthquake centered in Kumamoto caused extensive damage, including the collapse of homes, resulting in both human and residential losses. The Disaster Relief Act has been applied. In the affected areas, long-term support from many volunteer groups and NPOs will be essential, including clearing damaged houses, making repairs, and providing physical and emotional care for those impacted.
To support people affected by this disaster, the Central Community Chest of Japan is implementing a grant program for disaster-related volunteer activities under the initiative “Support Fund for Disaster Volunteer and NPO Activities (Borasupo – 2026 Kumamoto Earthquake).” This program provides grants to volunteer groups and NPOs working in coordination with local disaster volunteer centers. The fund is made possible through donations from the public.
