Campaigning in public places
Campaigning in public places is the best known method of fund raising in Japan. The station fronts and the shop fronts where many people gather together are used as the places for fund raising. This method is featured with the advertising aspect, thus the amount raised is not large.
Appeal to corporations
While a predominant manner is the direct visit of fund raising volunteers to corporations, appeal using direct mails is also adopted by some organizations of Community Chest. Some companies offer the matching gift which adds the same amount as the fund collected by employees. The trend of social service activities are growing, but the amount collected are leveling off due to the recent depression.
Appeal to employees
In this method, fund raising boxes are placed at offices of corporations and organizations to appeal for donation from workers. The material with donation, such as fund raising badges and red-feather telephone prepaid cards, are used effectively.
Special emphasis are put on this fund raising method, resulting in increase of the fund collected by 36% for these 12 years.
A number of schools including kindergartens, elementary schools and junior and senior high schools cooperate for the Community Chest Campaign. The main objective is to make children aware of the spirit of mutual aid and deepen their understanding on welfare.
Special event oriented campaign
This is the method to appeal for donation to those who come to see attractions. Charity sport events and bazaar are held. Also, at the time of local festivals or entertainment events, donation is appealed for.
